Jonathan Kohrs is going BQ for CUC at the Chicago Marathon!
I know that doesn't quite make sense, but it sounds a little crazy (like going 'cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs') and that's exactly what it is--a little crazy! For those of you who aren't marathon afficiandos, a BQ is a Boston Qualifier--a race that is fast enough in your age group and gender to get you into the exclusive Boston Marathon. It's every serious marathoner's goal, and I'm hoping to run a BQ for CUC this October in my fourth Chicago Marathon.
I've been inspired to run by friends and relatives who have also run marathons--my younger sister (Laura Kohrs Rohde '92) my brother-in-law, three of my neighbors, and two teachers from my son's high school. And I've been inspired to serve by former and current teachers, colleagues, students, and friends at Concordia University Chicago--too many to name or mention! Having received two degrees from Concordia and having taught there for more than 12 years now, I'm thrilled to be able to combine both passions in this opportunity to raise money for CUC's Health and Wellness Center. It will be a place where physical well-being can be nurtured to support the intellectual and spiritual growth that happens at this inspiring place!
Oh, and also...if I train really hard, I might be able to beat my brother-in-law's best time, which I'd really like to do--since he went to VALPO!!! Now what more reason could you need to support me in my goal?
