Concordia University Chicago

Melissa Perry runs Chicago to benefit Concordia's Literacy Center!

I've had a goal of completing another marathon since 2007 when I ran my first marathon. In 2012, I confided in my mentor and boss that I wanted to run another marathon. Tragically, he lost his life in a car accident in May 2012 and I kept thinking about fulfilling what I had told him. In July 2012 I found out we were expecting so I realized my marathon goal would need to wait. When I completed my first and only marathon my oldest daughter Madeline was 10 months old at the time and I decided to run my first marathon, The Seattle Seafair marathon. I trained and finished but always wanted to complete another one.

Now that our family is complete (our youngest Harper, born March 15, 2013) I'm ready to complete another marathon. I want to show my five daughters about the value of working hard and perseverance. When I found out that Concordia was participating as a charity, I jumped at the opportunity. I'm thankful I made it into the race and I'm excited to raise money to benefit Concordia's Literacy Center.
